New Paintings for Gallery Night!

Gallery Night, organized by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) is happening this Friday, May 3rd, from 5:00-9:00pm at participating venues throughout Madison. I'm happy to share that I'm participating in two group exhibitions where I will be showcasing all new work.

Heal, Create, and Share is a group exhibition curated by Roberto Torres Mata that brings together artists from diverse backgrounds and a range of artistic expressions, including paintings, sculptures, and multimedia installations that convey different perspectives on mental well-being. The exhibition aims to create a powerful and accessible platform that raises awareness about mental health and actively involves the community in the process of healing and destigmatization. I have two paintings in this exhibition exploring the joys and challenges of being a creative mother.

Exhibiting Artists: Rodrigo Carapia, Lilada Gee, Dakota Mace, Lesley Numbers, Ash Armenta, Rachael Griffin, J Myszka Lewis, Cat Birk, Jana Cariddi, Issis Macias, Heather Kohlmeier, and Cullen Houser.

The exhibition presented by Arts + Literature Laboratory (111 S. Livingston St. Suite 100) will run through Sunday, June 22nd.

The second group exhibition I'm participating in is, Latino Arts: Cinco de Mayo, Freedom & Independence, presented by Latinos Organizing for Understanding and Development (LOUD) at the Common Wealth Gallery (100 S. Baldwin St. 3rd Floor). This exhibition showcases over a dozen artists and their unique exploration of the theme.

I have four new paintings in this exhibition, including two of my largest—7 x 5 feet! As a recipient of the Micaela Salinas Artist fellowship, I was granted free studio space at the Common Wealth Gallery for the month of April. Having access to this studio space has been truly transformative for me. Amidst the chaos of motherhood, it provided a much-needed sanctuary where I was able to escape the daily demands and fully immerse myself in painting on a larger scale. I am deeply grateful to LOUD for this invaluable opportunity, which serves as undeniable proof that such support can significantly foster artistic growth.

I'd love to see you this Friday night from 5:00-6:30pm at Arts + Literature Laboratory and 6:45-8:30pm at Common Wealth Gallery!
