If you were following my stories on Instagram @issis.unstrung then you already know I was painting in the Common Wealth Gallery, a community art gallery in the historic Madison Enterprise Center located in the east side of Madison.
As the recipient of the Micaela Salinas Artist Fellowship, I was awarded free studio space for the month of April, along with a $300 stipend for materials. This opportunity was truly transformative for me. Amidst the chaos of motherhood, the studio became a sanctuary where I could escape daily demands and fully immerse myself in creative exploration on a larger scale. I am deeply grateful to Oscar Mireles, Founder of Latinos Organizing for Understanding and Development (LOUD) for this invaluable opportunity, which serves as undeniable proof that such support can significantly foster artistic growth.
A big thank you to Marty Jenich, the talented photographer who captured me in action alongside my large paintings in this beautiful space. I hope you enjoy this peek into my process.
